Parents need to know that A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is a teen mystery series based on the book series by Holly Jackson. It stars Emma Myers (Wednesday, Family Switch) as Pip, a teen girl who's motivated to solve the five-year-old murder of another teen in her small U.K. town. There's some violence, including an image of a character with a bloody head wound; another character threatens sexual assault. Drug use and dealing play a major role in this story, and characters are seen snorting ketamine at a wild party. Rohypnol use is also a plot point. Underage characters drink alcohol frequently. Language includes "s--t" and "f--k." Teens kiss and find romance. There's some discussion of nude pictures; a character finds condoms while snooping in another teen's room. While there's definitely some edgy content, main character Pip (the titular "good girl") is driven by a strong sense of justice and often learns from her mistakes.
good show! very entertaining with just the right amount of suspense and intrigue. appealing for teens with age appropriate content and topics for teens; however, in season 3 in the Rave season there are two people in the background having sex and it is pretty visible. minus that it was a good teen experience!
What's the Story?
Pippa Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers), known as Pip, is a "good girl" in the small town of Little Kilton. She's serious about school and hanging out with her friends, but is haunted by the murder five years earlier of another local teen, Andie Bell. Andie's boyfriend, Sal Singh, confessed to the crime and died by suicide shorty after. To Pip, this story doesn't add up. Deciding to do her EPQ (a school project) on the subject, she begins diving deep into what happened on that fateful night, which brings her closer to the main suspect's brother, Ravi Singh (Zain Iqbal). Together they interview various people close to Andie, and their hunt for her real killer eventually leads to a dark path of deceit, drugs, and more.
This series starts out on a lighter note but gets darker as Pip finds herself down the rabbit hole of Andie Bell's complicated life. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is a fun, twisty tale of teens who find more than they bargained for in what appeared to be a cut-and-dried case. Emma Myers is infinitely likable as Pip, and the solid supporting cast make this a well-rounded, if a bit sordid, murder mystery. Parents may want to be aware that edgy content ramps up as the series goes on and Pip learns more about Andie's life, including plots involving selling drugs, sexual assault, and more. Fans of the book series should be happy with this adaptation.
