What’s It About?
Like other battle royale games, BATTLELANDS ROYALE doesn't have a story. Instead, you're just some character thats been dropped onto a battlefield and told to fight to the death. As the number of survivors diminishes, so does the size of the arena, which also limits your opportunities to find new weapons, ammo, and other helpful items. But what makes this different from other games of this type is that this uses a top down perspective and cartoonish visuals, which gives it more of an old school arcade feel.
Is It Any Good?
Thanks to a different camera perspective, this online fight to the death works much better on tablets and phones than similar games. Like other battle royale-type games, Battlelands Royale is an online shooter in which players parachute onto a battlefield and use the weapons and ammo they find there to eliminate the competition to be the last survivor standing. As the number of enemies diminishes, so does the size of the battlefield. But what makes this different from similar games -- and work better on the smaller screens of a tablet or phone -- is that it swaps a first- or third-person perspective for a top-down one. This not only gives Battlelands Royale an old school arcade vibe like a twin-stick shooter, but it also makes it easier to play without a controller.
Surprisingly, this higher camera angle helps you play with a partner watching your back, which is a nice twist. That said, it does have some problems. For example, the controls could be a bit more responsive and offer more options for customization. Also, aside from the top-down perspective, it's still the same as every other battle royale game. But even with these issues, Battlelands Royale is a fun shooter for those who want to be the last one standing.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about violence in video games. Is the impact of the violence in Battlelands Royale lessened because of the top down perspective and cartoonish visuals? Do the cartoonish visuals increase the impact of the game's violence since there's no consequence to any actions committed by players?
Since you can earn in-game currency by playing, does it make any sense to spend money on this game, even for customizable items?
