What’s It About?
DUNKERS is a pretty straightforward competitive sports game. There are three modes of play – arcade, career, and two player. In arcade mode, kids play a series of quick games that end when one team dunks and scores. Career mode is similar with respect to game play, but kids can climb the ranks as they win each game. If kids want to play with a friend or family member, they can share their device in two player mode. The game controls are simple. An arrow on the right moves a player in a forward jumping motion to dunk the ball. An arrow on the left moves the player backward. Players can steal the ball by running into an opponent at just the right moment.
Is It Any Good?
With its goofy long-armed characters and fast-paced play, this game is surprisingly fun and strikes a balance between simple and challenging. There aren’t a lot of bells and whistles to Dunkers, but that’s what can make it a refreshing change of pace from other games that are loaded with rewards, customizations, and complicated controls. In this game, kids can focus on what they are doing – playing a game of basketball. And there's some variety inserted at random moments. For example, a trampoline sometimes appears in the center of the court. Or, there might be a game with four players including a frog and a duck.
Despite the game’s overall simplicity, scoring points and stealing the ball from an opponent isn't necessarily a simple task. Timing needs to be perfect in order to dunk or steal, and players can quickly lose control of the game if they send their character into a series of high jumps and flips. But even with the chaos that can ensue during a game, that’s what makes Dunkers so fun for kids who enjoy this kind of challenge.
