What's the Story?
In GOOD NIGHT, LITTLE BLUE TRUCK, a nighttime storm begins, with thunder and lightning, and Toad and Little Blue Truck dash into their garage, where its safe, warm, and dry. Then one by one their animal and bird friends come asking if they can take refuge there, too. "'Moo!' said Cow. 'Can I come in too?/ I feel safer here with you!'" Once inside, they start to feel braver. When the storm passes, Toad and Little Blue truck drive the friends home, one by one. "'Beep!' said Blue. 'Just hop inside./ All aboard for the bedtime ride.'" After saying goodnight to each animal freind, Toad and Blue go back home to the garage and and fall asleep.
Is It Any Good?
In this cheerful bedtime book, the familiar barnyard friends make their familiar animal sounds (Quack! Croak! Moo! Cluck!, etc.) and wait out a nighttime storm by relying on one another. The story works on two levels, both as an exciting story of friends gathering together during a crisis and as a soothing rhythmic bedtime motif as Toad and Blue say goodnight to each friend, one by one in the final part. That ending section has the same soothing, sleep-inducing cadence of Goodnight Moon: "Good night, Pig. Here's your pen."/ Good night, Duck."/ Good night, Hen." Works every time!
