Parents need to know that Ice Cold: The Untold Story of Hip-Hop Jewelry is a documentary series about jewelry in hip-hop produced by rap group Migos. The series focuses on the history of expensive, flashy jewelry in hip-hop, and how it evolved as a symbol of wealth and status in Black culture. Some drug use, specifically cocaine use, is shown in archival footage of films, like Superfly (1972) and Wall Street (1987), in order to illustrate the ideas of wealth and excessive spending. The series features interviews with rappers from the golden era, such as Slick Rick and Rakim, as well as contemporary stars like Lil Yachty and A$AP Ferg.

ICE COLD: THE UNTOLD STORY OF HIP-HOP JEWELRY looks at jewelry in hip-hop through the lens of Black culture, contrasting how jewelry is portrayed when associated with rappers to how it is portrayed when associated with generational wealth. Executive producers Migos enlist rappers from the golden era to the present to talk about what jewelry represents and how it has evolved over the last 50 years.
Jewelry in hip-hop has been part of some of the most insidious racial stereotyping of the last few decades, as shown here from a cultural and historical perspective. However, the series doesn't seem to have much to say beyond its initial illustration of Black wealth vs. White wealth in America, so it tends to have its subjects repeat the same talking points throughout. Ultimately, Ice Cold's often heavyweight guests -- including Slick Rick and Eric B. & Rakim -- simply show off their own investments in jewelry, which may end up perpetuating the same stereotypes the series seems to want to break.
