About JK Sooja

John spent most of his years in Minnesota before moving to CA to study English literature, media, and critical theory at University of California, Riverside. He completed his doctorate in 2017 with a focus in Asian American Literature, Cultural Studies, Media Studies, and Gender and Queer Theory. Pre-COVID-19, John taught composition, writing, and literature courses at UCR and De Anza College, but missed greatly a terribly cold climate, waiting for cars to warm up, de-icing windows, and shoveling in the winter, so he moved back to the Twin Cities in 2019. He currently is a Visiting Professor at Hamline University in St. Paul. A devout fan of literature, film, television, and games, John is thrilled to keep his critical eye tuned whilst reviewing movies and books for CSM. John also loves watching soccer and yelling at the teams he follows (Liverpool FC and Minnesota United FC). John lives with his two adorable children and his amazing partner.
