What's the Story?
JUSTICE RISING: 12 AMAZING BLACK WOMEN IN THE CIVIL RIGHT MOVEMENT celebrates real life "sheroes" of the 1950s and 60s. Their names and stories may have been forgotten in the history books, but this book celebrates their contributions to the movement. Each page has a mini biography of a courageous civil rights leaders: Ella Baker, Ruby Bridges, Claudette Colvin, Dorothy Cotton, Fannie Lou Hamer, Coretta Scott King, Diane Nash, Rosa Parks, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Gloria Richardson, Jo Ann Robinson, and Sheyann Webb. The important devotion of Freedom Marchers is also highlighted. While their stories and contributions to the civil rights movement are different, they are all connected by one thing -- their power as pioneers and change makers.
