Diverse Representations
a lot
Clark's best friend and roommate Jimmy Olsen is Black; Lois Lane presents as East Asian and is voiced by Korean actor Alice Lee. Other voice actors are also representative of the ethnicity of the characters they play.
Parents need to know that My Adventures with Superman is a family-friendly animated series about a young Superman (voiced by Jack Quaid). Clark Kent and his photographer roommate, Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid), are starting their careers -- they're interns at the Daily Planet under highly motivated reporter Lois Lane (Alice Lee). Of course, Clark has a secret identity that he must balance along with his regular-guy life. Violence includes evil giant robots, explosions, futuristic guns, and other sci-fi weapons. Characters are often in peril but always make it out safely. There's some light romance between characters; it's cute and awkward, not sexual. Language is mild and limited to name-calling like "dummies." This light, lively series is a great choice for whole-family viewing.
Okay so watched the two premire episode of this expecting the worst since it's on adult swim but wow oh wow from the two epidode premiere this is perfectly fine
Besides expected violence. For ten and over I loved the show and have a semi crush on this Louis lane. I adore her Spunk. I highly recommend it please parents watch with kids though just incase I missed something
I sorta get bothered when a character is randomly black, or gay and for some odd reason nobody says anything when that happens. Lois Lane was a white girl, Jimmy Olsen was a white guy, The Daily Planet boss was a white guy, little changes (like eye color) stand out to children, because they're children and ask these questions.
So when I noticed my friend's son watching 'My Adventures with Superman' I gave the first season a watch because it reminded me of Batman and Superman. I asked him about it and he noticed the eye colors, told me, "Oh yeah, her mom's a lesbian, they always make people gay like that's normal."
Then I found out they're the same studio that made "She-Ra", which was a TV-Y rating. I have nothing against people being themselves in public, but it kills a show has to have gay characters exist just to have their story mean nothing in this universe.
This is a pretty violent show, they don't have blood but you'll see Superman get a black eye then he magically heals with sunlight. It's strange how the rating system works.
Anyways, this show has it's moments especially with Lois Lane and the children (in the show) all teaming up to help Superman often. The problem with that, he's Superman, he's supposed to be overpowered and not die.
It's more along the lines of, "Why doesn't he just punch off the dude's head?" There's a bunch of nobody's beating up Superman, they can't get his origin right, it's just boring with clumsy writing.
I can see teenagers watching this show and having some fun. There's some cool moments, but it's not with Superman.
This show is pretty boring at times, it's more along the lines of, "Let's see black Jimmy Olsen do something cool, let's see culturally diverse Lois Lane doing something cool, oh right this is a show about Superman, we'll just make him get beat up and somehow Clark Kent will end up getting beaten by the bad guys, but he wins."
It didn't really work with me, I would have been fine just seeing a few episodes.
What's the Story?
A young, eager Clark Kent is ready to start his life as an intern at the Daily Planet along with his best friend and roommate Jimmy Olsen. But he's got a lot more to manage than getting scoops and citing sources -- Kent leads a double life as Metropolis's local superhero, Superman. With evil forces gaining strength and giant robots on the loose, plus a budding romance with coworker Lois Lane, this regular guy has his work cut out for him.
This lively, anime-inspired animated series is a lighthearted and fun fresh start for the classic superhero. Jack Quaid (who also expertly voices the lead on Star Trek: Lower Decks) brings a goofy vulnerability and sweetness to this Superman -- he's the kind of guy to bring a box of donuts to the office and trip on his way in. The action starts quickly, and kids who aren't quite ready for serious superhero movies will be thrilled with the battles and challenges the crew must face.
