Yo Gabba GabbaLand!
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
The Gabba friends are back in YO GABBA GABBALAND!. Foofa, Brobee, Toodee, Plex, and Muno are toy figurines that come to life when Kammy Kam, a human girl (played by Kamryn Smith), plays with them. In each episode, Kammy Kam and the Gabbas learn about a different topic, like rainbows, trees, air, or water. The magazine-style show also features short segments of real kids dancing and making funny faces, a profile of a real kid from around the world, and music videos. Kammy Kam and the Gabbas dance, sing, and explore GabbaLand. The Gabbas turn back into toys at the end of the episode, waiting for Kammy Kam to bring them to life for their next adventure.
Is It Any Good?
Grown-ups who remember Yo Gabba Gabba will enjoy that the reboot is true to the original, but with a hair less weirdness. Kid host Kammy Kam (who replaces original kooky DJ Lance Rock) makes the show a bit more relatable to kids. Like the previous generation, today's kids will love the zany Gabbas (even if they have mascot bodies with no facial expressions) and the high-energy music. They will also especially love seeing real preschoolers (i.e., not child-actor types) featured in various segments.
Grown-ups will enjoy the celebrity cameos (or, at least cool grown-ups, as some of the cameos feature relatively "hip" artists that are not totally mainstream). The show is still silly and entertaining, but its simple songs also do a great job teaching preschool lessons. Kids will be inspired to get up and dance along with the Gabbas, and will learn something along the way.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how your body feels when you get up and dance!
Young kids can sometimes have a difficult time learning social-emotional lessons from television. Families can talk about the "lesson" from today's episode and how your child might use that lesson in their everyday life.
