The Night Librarian: A Graphic Novel

Parents need to know that The Night Librarian is a middle grade fantasy graphic novel about sister and brother twins Page and Turner and their love of books and reading. They love to go to the New York Public Library to read and look for new books. Because their parents are away so often, the two spend a lot of time there. But one night, something weird happens, and before they know it, all kinds of magical characters and creatures are coming out of the books themselves! Mild violence includes characters being chased by monster/ghost creatures from other existing stories, like a sea monster, Dracula, Captain Hook, a Red Dragon, and the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. Characters give a "death ray stare" that shocks targets briefly, their skeleton shows, and they hover in the air (they're fine). Pinocchio runs with his behind on fire ("liar, liar, pants on fire"). A man kicks a monster. Characters mention stories of Dracula "sucking victims dry," an orangutan with a "straight razor" killing people, pirates who will "slit your throat," and monsters "eating" victims, but nothing is actually shown. Monsters and a giant fight pirates, dragons and Robin Hood, a rapidly growing beanstalk knocks out a giant, a cannonball crashes into a library wall, a dog bites Captain Hook in the behind, a man drinks a magical potion and turns into a monstrous version of himself (Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde), a flailing robot arm smacks a woman in her head, a woman is carried off by a large robot, and a man pushes his family out of the way of a falling van, but it still hurts his leg (he's fine). A ghost man escapes from a book, and characters say that he is "naked," but he's just surrounded by blue light and with no clothes and no nudity. Language includes: "jerk," "stupid," "butt," "that's bull," "creep," "idiot," and "moron."
